Christian Symbols ~ Rainbow

Have you ever seen a rainbow? What are some of the colors in a rainbow? There is red, orange, yellow, green, blue, purple, and violet. Sometimes a rainbow is so big it goes all the way across the sky. Do you know what makes the rainbow? It is the sun shining through the air that is filled with water. After it rains, the air still has a lot of water in it and when the sun shines through it, you can see all the beautiful colors that make the rainbow.  After it rains sometime at your house, look in the sky and see if you can see a rainbow.

The first time a rainbow is ever mentioned in the Bible is after the flood. God had sent a flood of water to destroy everyone on the earth except Noah and his family. No one else would listen to God or obey Him. After it had rained for forty days and nights and water was everywhere, the only ones who were safe were Noah and his family and the animals they had on the ark with them. When Noah and his family came out of the ark, they saw a beautiful rainbow in the sky. This rainbow symbolized God’s promise that he would never destroy the earth with a flood again. He made a promise and He kept that promise.

Every time you see a rainbow, remember that God promised He would never again flood the whole earth.
