Pomegranates are a bright, red fruit that grow on a small tree. The tree has bright flowers and the pomegranates are about the size of an orange. They have a very thick skin on the outside. On the inside, it is full of little seeds --- about 600. These seeds are very good to eat and are used in a lot of foods.
The pomegranate seeds are used to make juice and syrup for cooking. The seeds can also be dried and used in cooking. Sometimes, because the juice is such a bright red color, it is used to dye clothes and make them red.
In the Bible, they ate pomegranates a lot. You could open a pomegranate and eat on the seeds all day long. Because it seemed like the fruit lasted forever, the pomegranate became a symbol of eternal life.
Have you ever tasted a pomegranate? We don’t see them as much around here as we see apples, oranges, and bananas. They grow mostly in other parts of the world. But if you ever taste a pomegranate seed, you will see how sweet and chewy they are.
Remember, when you open up a pomegranate, they are full of seeds and these symbolize that we have hope of eternal life if we believe in Jesus.
