Story Suggestion:
1 Samuel 17:1-58
David was a small young man. But because he trusted God, such a small man was able to slay the giant, Goliath. David put five little stones into his sling, and used them to topple the giant down.

Game Ideas: Giant Tic-Tac-Toe


  • Draw a large tic-tac-toe grid on a sheet of poster board.
  • Place it on the floor and mark a line behind which the children must stand.
  • Each player is given five beanbags to toss.
  • The children must land three in a row to receive points or a prize.

Big or Small Game


  • Bring in objects that are big and small in like categories, such as blocks, fruits, cut out shapes, etc.
  • Divide the children into pairs and have them work on sorting their objects into a pile of big objects and a pile of small objects.
  • Walk around the room and observe if they are understanding the concept correctly.

Snack Ideas: Goliath Snack
Allergy Alert: Snack contains peanut butter


  • Bananas
  • Creamy peanut butter
  • Thin pretzel sticks
  • Strawberries
  • Raisins


  • Cut bananas in half. Give each child a half of  banana.
  • Have them stick the pretzels on either side to make arms and legs.
  • Let them use peanut butter as glue to hold raisins in place for eyes.
  • Cut strawberries into a triangle shape for a helmet.
  • Eat and enjoy

Sling Shots


  • Ready to bake cookie dough
  • Pull apart Twizzlers
  • Malted milk balls
  • Shape cookie dough into "Y" shapes to look like a sling shot and bake.
  • Have the children place a red Twizzler string between the Y to make sling shot.
  • Serve malted milk balls as stones.

Art Center Ideas: David's Stone Collection


  • Large smooth stones
  • Acrylic paints
  • Paintbrushes
  • Polyurethane (adult use only)


  • Clean and dry stones before the craft.
  • Give each child five stones to paint. Let them make them different colors.
  • When they are done, have an adult helper pray the stones with polyurethane to keep thepaint from chipping. Let dry.

Optional: Give each child a bag (pouch) to hold heir stones.

Suggested Prayer:
“Dear God, I may be little and yet to grow, but You love me, this I know. Help me be a hining light, helping others do what's right. In Jesus' name, Amen.”
